The professional track faculty member will be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of statewide education programs related to family financial management, and financial health initiatives within the University of Maryland Extension (UME). This dynamic position will be based in the Department of Family Science in the School of Public Health, approved by both the School of Public Health and the college of Agriculture and Natural Resources. This incumbent will serve as a resource for extension field faculty in Maryland to; 1) Identify and communicate crucial statewide, and national issues in family financial management and financial health, 2) develop and provide educational materials and resources, 3) lead in-service education, conferences, other professional development activities, and 4) conduct program evaluation and applied research related to program priorities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate scholarly competence, or the potential of future research productivity to develop an independent, innovative, and applied research program, and inform educational programs on issues related to family financial management and financial health initiatives (e.g. personal finance, financial planning, consumer science, public policy, community development, social work, family health, poverty). Applied research should be of the quality for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and be appropriate for educational programming. The position will support evidence-based family financial management and financial health extension programming targeted to educators, students, financial professionals, and the public. The incumbent will conduct and translate family financial management and financial health related research for development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs. Teaching responsibilities include classroom courses (face-to-face and online formats), community-based workshops and seminars, as well as webinars, webcasts, blended learning, and other technologies. Excellent opportunities exist for interdisciplinary activities with other faculty within the Department, the School of Public Health, the college of Agriculture and Natural Resources, other units on campus, and UME units such as 4-H Youth Development, Family and Consumer Sciences, Agriculture, Food Supplement Nutrition Education, and Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Programs. Collaboration with faculty at University of Maryland Eastern Shore, our 1890 Land-Grant partner, is highly encouraged.
Qualifications:Applicants should have doctoral degree (Ph.D.) (advanced doctoral candidates may be considered) in Personal Finance, Financial Planning, Family Economics, Family Science and Human Development, Family and Consumer Science, Epidemiology, Health Care Management, Community Health, Family Health, Public Health or a related discipline; evidence of effective teaching, extension programming, or other applied work in family financial management and financial health; leadership ability; the potential of seeking external funding for research and extension programming; research activities and publications, and a background in applied research and program evaluation. Incumbent will demonstrate excellent skill and ability working with diverse populations. Experience working with the Cooperative Extension System is preferred.CFP®, AFC®, or equivalent professional certification is desirable.
Salary and Appointment Date:This is a 12-month professional track appointment; salary is commensurate with qualifications. Funding is guaranteed for 12 months annually. Appointments may begin in January 2019, or on a mutually agreed-upon date.
