Financial Coach

TG seeks to hire an energetic, resourceful, caring financial coach to join our team as part of our holistic, integrated approach to serving students enrolled in higher education.

Major Purpose of Financial Coach

To assist students in exploring and identifying their personal financial and educational goals and in developing strategies, action steps and utilizing resources to reach those goals.

Required skills

  •  A strong understanding of financial principles, concepts, tools and best practices.
  • Familiarity with student aid programs.
  • Familiarity with public benefits, public assistance organizations and related informational resources
  • An empathetic, respectful, student-positive attitude
  • Strong communication skills- effective listening, dialogue and discussion, providing honest feedback, framing concepts to facilitate understanding, guided questioning to elicit disclosure, persuasion

Required Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or university and two years relevant experience in financial coaching, financial counseling, student counseling/advising, student affairs or financial aid administration.

Six years relevant experience in financial coaching, financial counseling, student counseling/advising, student affairs or financial aid administration can substitute for the degree requirement. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Accredited Financial Counselor or similar certification
  • Bilingual
  • Experience working with college students
  • Experience with college access or college success initiatives
